One day in Pella during the Tulip Time Festival, will have you making plans for a return visit! The first Thursday, Friday & Saturday in May, Pella bursts into bloom with its world-famous Tulip Time Festival. It’s not just a celebration—it’s a full-on Dutch extravaganza. The town transforms into a sea of over 300,000 tulips, with locals donning traditional Dutch attire, wooden shoes clacking on the brick streets, and twice-daily parades winding through the historic square. You’ll find pop-up performances, an artisan market, and food vendors serving everything from poffertjes to Dutch letters to Pella bologna. It’s the kind of event that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a European fairytale—without leaving Iowa.
